Let’s be real for a second: we all talk about "supporting local," but how often do we actually get out of our comfort zones to find the hidden gems in our own backyard? Here at the Melanin Collaborative Group inc (MCG), we realized that while the spirit is willing, sometimes the GPS is weak. People want to support Black owned businesses in Jacksonville, but they don’t always know where to start or how to make a day of it.
That’s exactly why we created the Buy Black Bus Blitz. It’s not just a shopping trip; it’s a high-energy, community-driven, 55-passenger rolling party with a purpose. Presented by MCG, the same team behind the legendary Jax Melanin Market, the Bus Blitz is our way of literally putting people on the doorstep of excellence.
If you’ve been looking for a way to shop Black Jacksonville while having the time of your life, buckle up. We’re taking a deep dive into what makes this tour a must-do experience, and why you need to be on that bus for our next run on Saturday, March 21st, 2026.
What Exactly is the Buy Black Bus Blitz?
Imagine a luxury charter bus filled with 55 motivated, excited, and stylish people all looking to do one thing: circulate the dollar.
The Buy Black Bus Blitz is a curated tour of Jacksonville’s most vibrant Black-owned enterprises. We handle the driving, the parking, and the itinerary. All you have to do is show up, bring your shopping bags, and prepare to be inspired.

As the parent organization, MCG designed this initiative to bridge the gap between entrepreneurs and the community. We know that when we shop small and shop local, the impact stays right here in our neighborhoods. According to recent economic studies, the "Black dollar" often leaves our community in less than six hours. The Bus Blitz is our way of slowing that down, making sure our entrepreneurs get the visibility and the sales they deserve.
The Vibe: More Than Just a Commute
If you’re picturing a quiet, boring bus ride, you’ve got the wrong organization. When you step onto an MCG bus tour, the energy is immediate.
We’ve got a tour guide keeping things lively with Jacksonville history, "Duval" trivia, and insights into the neighborhoods we’re passing through. It’s a networking event on wheels. You’ll meet fellow business owners, community leaders, and neighbors who share your passion for seeing our city thrive.
Plus, every guest gets a Buy Black Blitz tote bag to hold all the treasures they find along the way. It’s like a VIP backstage pass to the best of Jax. You can check out more about our upcoming tours on our bus tours page.

A Closer Look at the March 21st Lineup
Our upcoming tour on Saturday, March 21st (12 PM – 6 PM) is shaping up to be one of our most diverse yet. We aren’t just hitting retail shops; we’re visiting service providers, cultural hubs, and some of the best food spots in the city.
Here is a sneak peek at the stops we’ll be making:
1. Arnett Sport Kung Fu
Who says supporting local has to be all about shopping? We’re stopping by Arnett Sport Kung Fu to highlight the importance of health, discipline, and martial arts in our community. Seeing a Black-owned martial arts studio thriving in Jacksonville is a testament to the diverse talents our entrepreneurs bring to the table. Whether you’re looking for a new hobby or a way to keep the kids active, this stop is a masterclass in community empowerment.
2. Rose's Mailroom
Behind every great business is a great support system. Rose’s Mailroom is a staple for local entrepreneurs. From shipping and packing to essential business services, they keep the gears of our local economy turning. We love stopping here because it reminds everyone that supporting local businesses in Jacksonville also means supporting the B2B services that help them stay afloat.
3. Starvin Like Marvin
You can’t have an MCG event without incredible food. Starvin Like Marvin is legendary for a reason. Whether you’re craving soul food that tastes like Sunday at Grandma’s or fresh seafood that hits the spot, this is the place. Part of the Bus Blitz experience is the "group eat", there’s nothing quite like 50 people descending on a restaurant to show them some serious financial love!

4. Funnel Cake Queen
Time for dessert! The Funnel Cake Queen is bringing the fair vibes to the streets of Jax every single day. Her story is one of pure hustle and sweet success. Stopping here is a reminder that Black excellence comes in all flavors. Be prepared to wait in line, not because we’re slow, but because everybody wants a piece of that powdered-sugar goodness.
5. Nefertiti's Book Store
We wrap things up with some food for the soul and the mind. Nefertiti’s Book Store is a cultural treasure trove. From Afrocentric literature to educational resources that you won't find at the big-box retailers, this shop is essential for maintaining our heritage and history. It’s the perfect place to use that last bit of space in your Blitz tote bag.
Why the "Blitz" Matters
You might be wondering, "Penny, why go to all this trouble? Can’t I just drive there myself?"
Technically, yes. But there is a specific power in the collective. When 55 people walk into a small business at the same time, it does more than just boost that day's sales. It creates a "blitz" of energy. It shows the business owner that the community has their back. It creates social media buzz that lasts for weeks.
Most importantly, it builds a habit. Many of our past riders have told us that they never would have known about these shops if they hadn't taken the tour. Now, they are regular customers. That is how we build generational wealth and sustainable neighborhoods.

At the end of the day, the Melanin Collaborative Group is about more than just events; we are about results. Whether we are hosting the Jax Melanin Market, offering business support workshops, or driving a busload of shoppers across town, our mission remains the same: to uplift and empower Black entrepreneurs.
The Buy Black Bus Blitz is a physical manifestation of that mission. It’s loud, it’s fun, it’s impactful, and it’s waiting for you.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s make some noise, spend some money where it matters, and show Jacksonville exactly what happens when we roll together with purpose.
